Sustainability and Environmental Strategy

The Sustainability and Environmental Strategy 2023-2028 was unanimously supported by Council on 5 September 2023. View the strategy HERE!

The strategy sets an organisational target to reach net zero corporate emissions by 2040. It also outlines an aspirational goal of reaching that target by 2035.

The goals and strategic measures within the strategy aim to guide the City’s actions over the next five years. Focus areas include governance, energy and emissions, sustainable water, circular economy and waste, sustainable transport and urban infrastructure, greening and biodiversity, climate resilience andcommunity, culture and wellbeing.

The strategy has been developed in line with aspirations for a healthy and sustainable ecosystem as part of the City’s Strategic Community Plan by supporting outcomes and objectives under the ‘planet’ pillar.
Thanks to our community for your invaluable engagement and feedback through an online survey and several community cafe sustainability workshops.

The City commissioned local Noongar artist Melissa Gail Riley to create the incredible artwork for the strategy, paying recognition and acknowledging the Noongar Wardandi people and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community.

A Sustainability and Environmental Action Plan will be developed for the delivery of the strategy.

The progress and performance of the strategy will be monitored annually, and the City will provide the community updates on the delivery of actions and progress toward targets.
