St Peters Green Local Park - Playground Renewal

Project Overview

Project Update - February 2026:

We are excited to start work on renewing your local playground at St Peters Green! Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and voted for their favourite design.

We had a great response from the community, and the winning design is Option 2: Bushland Wonders.

This play space has been designed for children of all ages and abilities. It encourages kids to explore and learn about our native plants and animals while they play.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of 16 February and will take approximately three weeks.

Any changes to the project schedule will be shared on this page.

Project Background

The City is progressing the planning phase for a local playground renewal at St Peters Green in College Grove, and we need your input to make it a space that truly reflects our community's needs and desires!

Your feedback is invaluable in helping us design a playground and park that will be enjoyed by all community members for years to come.

To help ensure the new playground includes features our community will love, we’re inviting you to take part in our design poll and vote for your favourite option!

If you have any questions or queries relating to this project, please contact our Parks and Reserves Project Officer Michael McCutcheon at info@bunbury.wa.gov.au

Playground Design Options

We’re excited to commence the renewal of this well loved local playground in this popular area.  Check out the details of each design option below, and the rendered images for both in the image section on the side bar!

Design Option One: Garden Friends

Surrounded by beautiful natural landscape, this design intends to create a close-to-nature atmosphere with play opportunities for all ages and abilities.

The backyard garden is full of interesting and engaging experiences for children, and we have incorporated interaction with this theme with Betty Bee and Sam Snail Springers, Butterfly Colours panels and Home to the Hive Bee Panel, as well as a tunnel for little possums to hide in

This playground showcases swings, climbing opportunities, nature-inspired play, and inclusive play opportunities. A strong focus on accessible and inclusive play elements connected with synthetic turf access pathways is a highlight of this design. For example, the inclusive see saw and Connect Four Game Panel with wheelchair friendly access.

We have prioritised on extensive shade coverage with main coverage over the swing set and junior play elements.

Option 2 – Bushland Wonders

We all know that we are blessed with some amazing animals that are unique to our Southwest region . This play space design encourages children of all ages and abilities to explore our native flora and fauna! From the Kangaroo and Joey Springer to the Numbat Springer, kids will find a cuddle creature to get up close and personal with.

There is sure to be a creature for you to climb on and rock away with. We have considered the community feedback on previous projects showing a strong preference for swings, climbing opportunities, nature-inspired play and inclusive play elements.

We have placed significant importance on play for early childhood through the inclusion of an Aussie animal theme and the junior features of the multiplay unit, toddler swing and Kangaroo & Numbat springers. We have focussed on the play experiences that can be enjoyed by children of all ages, providing multiple climbing elements of various levels of challenge, exhilarating flying fox rides and quiet zones for calmer play. A strong focus on accessible and inclusive play elements connected with synthetic turf access pathways is a highlight of this design. For example, the inclusive wheelspin and basket swing. We have prioritised on extensive shade coverage, prioritising coverage over the swing set and junior play elements.

The City’s Parks and Playgrounds Action Plan 2023-2033 provides a 10-year strategic framework for the provision, design and management of the City’s recreation parks and playgrounds.

The vision of the plan is to provide a diverse range of quality parks and playgrounds that meet the recreational, environmental, social, cultural and health needs of our community.

Currently, about 78 per cent of residents have access to a playground within 400m of their home while 98.3 per cent are within 800m.

Under the plan, this will increase to 83 per cent and 98.65 per cent respectively – meaning it will be easier than ever for our community to get out and play at their local park!

St Peters Green is a Local Park meaning it is intended to service community members living with 400m of the space.

We know that our beautiful city has a diverse and growing community, and limited green space to create new parks. So, it’s important we ensure our existing playgrounds meet the contemporary needs of our community.
