Prior to 1985, the Bicentennial Square location housed railway marshalling yards before they were relocated to Picton. The historic Old Railway Building was constructed in 1905 and is currently a heritage listed building including the separate ablution block building. Opening in 1988, Bicentennial Square was redeveloped by the City of Bunbury and encompasses the former railway station (now a café and bus transit centre). The area includes the Pat Usher Memorial Foreshore and is built on land reclaimed from the estuary.
There are many local businesses and shops surrounding the area, along with the City's entertainment centre and youth precinct, Koolambidi Woola. Positioned within our Leschenault Inlet area, the space is also a part of the Leschenault Inlet Master Plan (document available in the project links section).
Stage 1 community and stakeholder consultation took place in November 2024 - January 2025, along with traffic modelling studies and geotechnical reporting. We are excited to present the draft masterplan based on these findings and understand our community's thoughts on the design and key changes proposed.
