Sustainability and climate change action is a key priority for the City of Bunbury and our community.

In fact, the latest 2021 MARKYT Community Scorecard survey revealed ‘sustainability and climate change’ as the fourth highest community priority.

Earlier this year (2022) we asked for your input on Sustainability Priorities for the City.

The City received 130 survey responses. The top 10 priority areas identified by community were:

  • Renewable energy
  • Urban greening
  • Energy efficiency
  • Revegetation of natural areas
  • Environmentally Sustainable Designs
  • Waste avoidance
  • Water efficiency and reuse in irrigation
  • Recycling
  • Water sensitive urban design
  • Sustainable consumption

These results are now helping to inform the vision and priorities of the City’s new Sustainability and Environmental Strategy.

The City is now inviting community to come along to one of two Sustainability Community Café (workshop sessions) to provide direct input that will inform the development of the City's new Sustainability and Environmental Strategy. This Strategy will provide a roadmap for improving the environmental sustainability and resilience of City operations and our community, in line with the City's Strategic Community Plan - under the ‘Planet Pillar’:

  • Sustainably manage, conserve and enhance our natural habitats.
  • Encourage the adoption of sustainable practices.
  • Develop a sustainable, low waste, circular economy.
  • Conserve and manage water resources.
  • Move to net zero gas emissions.
  • Minimise risks and impacts from fires, floods, heat waves, and other natural disasters.
